John Force: Owner/Driver of the Castrol GTX Funny Car
John Force (born May 4, 1949 in Bell Gardens, California) is an NHRA drag racer and 13-time Funny Car division champion. He is one of the most dominant drag racers in the sport with over 119 career victories as of October 2005.
Force currently holds the records for qualifying in most consecutive events (347) and most Funny Car championships (13). He also holds the current Funny Car speed (333.58 mph) and elapsed time (4.665 s) records; both were set at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL. His daughter Ashley Force competes in the Top Alcohol Dragster class of the NHRA.
Since the mid-1990's, Force has been a Ford driver and team owner, and known for also being outspoken and very, very fast talking. Force talks so fast, in fact, that at times he's hard to understand, which has made him a fan favorite.
The Force Racing dynasty has dominated the sport. John Force Racing won every championship since 1993 until 2005 in Funny Car, with the only championship by a driver other than Force in the class being Tony Pedregon, who was at the time a Force Racing driver, who left to join his brother Cruz at Pedregon Racing afterwards.
In 2005 however, John Force was edged out by a mere 32 points by Schumacher Racing's Gary Scelzi who won the NHRA 2005 Funny Car World Championship. He also came in behind Schumacher Racing's Ron Capps by only 24 points.
